The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Standards Division services the agency in a multi-task function.  Development and archiving of policy and procedures, contract monitoring of private services that operate in the agency’s facilities, food service, commissary, as well as monitoring a 900 bed prison facility (Correctional Corporation of America) in which the metropolitan government is in contract with.  The Standards Division conducts all monthly safety, fire and sanitation reports for the agency and all plans of actions are reported to the Standards Division for follow up.

The Standards Division is the coordinator for the ADA needs for inmate and visitors.  Standards Director Kim Peery and Human Resources Director Jim Kramer are coordinators for DCSO’s Title VI compliance program. Each member of the Standards Division is required and receives training in policy and procedures, local, state, and federal guidelines.  Training is also required in safety, fire and sanitation for the Standards Division.  Training is received within the agency as well as the use of outside agencies.  The Standards Division receives knowledgeable and diverse training, which they bring to the agency.  With the training that the Standards Division receives a lesson plan is developed to train other employees of the DCSO the knowledge and tools to maintain compliance based on policy and procedures standards, accountability, diversity, integrity, and professionalism.

Standards Division oversees all ACA standard files to include, Adult Local Detention Facilities, Jerry Newson Center, Administration and is in the process of transitioning to Performance Base Standards.  Work groups in which compliance monitors, build the standard files.  These files are audited annually along with every facility walkthrough inspection conducted by the Standards Division.

The DCSO’s written policies and procedures exceed ACA’s national requirements, and to continue being a leader, the agency needs to ensure quality control and that it is accountable for following its own standards and expectations.  The Office of Standards and Accountability is also responsible for auditing specific divisions within the Sheriff’s Office to ensure compliance of internal operating procedures.

We are very proud to state that all the facilities of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office are accredited by the American Correctional Association.  The Standards Division is best known for this procedure in maintaining compliance by policy and procedures as well as ACA standards.  The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office strives to be the leader in the field of corrections and this division provides the foundation for this goal.

The Office of Standards and Accountability is located at the Sheriff’s Support Center, 430 3rd Avenue North, Nashville, Tn 37201
