All arrestees are
brought to the Criminal Justice Center ("CJC") for booking. If arrestees
do not bond out and are not diverted to pre-trial release, they are
classified here and assigned a housing location at either CJC or one of
the other facilities. Inmates housed at the CJC are generally in a
pre-trial status on at least one felony charge. In addition, any male
inmate who is classified as maximum security, or who is in need of
direct medical supervision or other special care, is housed at CJC.
DCSO employees are
available 24 hours a day to handle requests for information about
specific inmates at CJC. Please call (615) 862-8123.
NOTE:
Inmates are not allowed to receive incoming phone calls or messages of
any kind!
To determine whether an individual is presently in one of DCSO's jails,
you can also call our "VINE" system at 1-800-456-3202 (you
will need to know the correct spelling of the person's full name). This
automated system, which requires a touch-tone telephone, is free to
anyone who wishes to use it. You may also register with the VINE system
to be notified by phone when a particular inmate is being released from
custody or transferred to another facility. Please visit our
VINE page for more information.

DIRECTIONS TO CJC AT 448 SECOND AVENUE
NORTH |
|
|
-
In
Nashville, on Interstate 65 (which is combined with
Interstate 24 at this point in town), northbound or
southbound, take exit #48 to James Robertson Parkway.
Regardless of which direction you were traveling on the
interstate, you will bear right off the exit ramp.
-
Go through
the light at Interstate Drive (at the exit from the
interstate) and go straight, crossing the Victory Memorial
Bridge over the Cumberland River.
-
At the end
of the Victory Memorial Bridge is the traffic light for 2nd
Avenue North. The Metro Courthouse is the large concrete
building on the left. On the right is a smaller red brick
building with columns and a silver dome. The CJC (which also
houses the Metro Nashville Police Department) is the tall
red brick building on the right on the other corner of James
Robertson Parkway and 2nd Avenue North.
(Please note - the following portion of these
directions, while correct, are currently unavailable to
automobile traffic due to building renovations - this area
is currently only accessible to foot traffic. Parking is
available in the area.)
-
Turn right
onto 2nd Avenue North (the only way it is possible to turn
onto 2nd). CJC faces 2nd Avenue North and will be on the
left after turning from James Robertson Parkway.
-
There are several pay-to-park surface lots in the area.

RULES FOR VISITING AN INMATE AT
CJC
Remember: Visitation is a privilege, not a Constitutional right.
To maintain the security of visitors, employees, and inmates, the
following rules are strictly enforced -- if you visit an inmate at CJC,
you are responsible for knowing and abiding by them all. Violation of
any of these rules will result in cancellation of the visit!!!
All visitors MUST...:
» Personally sign in at the CJC Business Office, and...
» Be on the visitors list of the inmate they are trying to
visit, and...
» Present either a State-issued current driver's license with
photo or a State-issued
identification card with photo.
NO cameras, telephones, recorders, tobacco products, food, or
beverages are permitted in the waiting room or in the visitors' gallery!
An inmate's housing location within CJC determines his
visitation schedule. To determine an inmate's housing location, you
may call CJC at (615) 862-8123 any time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
(Visitors
should arrive 15 min before time), and inmates will not be called for visits after the visits begin.
Although CJC does not have its own parking area, there are several
surface pay-and-park lots in the area.
Because of space limitations, inmates are permitted no more than two
(2) pre-approved visitors per visitation day. This includes
children.
Special Note for Visitors from Out-of-Town:
» Inmates are permitted two (2) visitors from out-of-town each
week. Visitors
must travel at least 100 air miles to Nashville to be
considered "out-of-town".
» If a visitor has traveled more than 300 miles, more than two
visits may be
allowed, at the CJC supervisor's discretion.
» A visitor from out-of-town must present a current driver's
license with a photo,
or another government-issued photo identification
verifying residency, or a
green military ID and a copy of his/her travel orders. US
passports are not
acceptable.
» Due to space considerations, please contact the Business
Office Supervisor at
(615) 862-8123 to schedule out of town visits. |
