The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office will be collaborating with Vanderbilt University’s Project SAFE program to kick off the month. Vanderbilt University will be hosting an event called “TAKE BACK THE NIGHT” which is a walk from Vanderbilt’s Olin field to Centennial Park in a march to end domestic violence. This event is on October 13, 2008, at 7 p.m. (meeting at Vanderbilt’s Olin Field).
In further support, the DCSO will have a visual display at Centennial Park and/or Olin Field called “THESE HANDS DON’T HURT.” This is a visual display that bears witness to ending violence against women. Each male and female who stamped their handprints on the banner received a pledge card showing that they will never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women. Every person that participated received a purple ribbon to wear on October 13th for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
